Orgasmic Birth: Can it Really Be This Good?

The Final Week of The Holistic Pregnancy Tele-Summit has begun and we’ve saved the best for last! I’m excited and honored to be interviewing our expert Debra Pascali-Bonaro for tomorrow’s eye-opening call: Orgasmic Birth: Can it Really Be This Good?

Debra is one of the founding mothers of the “doula” movement. She has been a doula for over 25 years, and has trained thousands of doulas and birth professionals around the world in the practices of gentle birth support. After attending more than 400 births over more than two decades, she believes most births can occur with less technology and interference and that childbirth is a process to be enjoyed and cherished.

Debra Pascali-Bonaro is the creator and director of Orgasmic Birth: Nature’s Best Kept Secret, a documentary that examines the intimate nature of birth –an everyday miracle– and the ways in which our current system of care during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period disrupts the normal rhythms of birth and causes a myriad of other problems.  Debra is also the co-author of the book “Orgasmic Birth, Your Guide to a Safe, Satisfying and Pleasurable Birth Experience” which goes beyond the film and turns the information into a helpful guide.

Debra’s work has been featured on ABC’s 20/20, The NBC Today Show, Discovery Health, in The New York Times, The LA Times, The UK Times ands numerous parenting and health magazines.

We’ll be talking about:

  • Why having a joyful, ecstatic birth is so important to you and your baby’s long term health and wellbeing

  • The relationship between sexuality and birth, how orgasm can transform your birth experience and why societal taboos around feminine sexuality keep a lot of women from having this experience

  • How to consciously create a birth environment conducive to having a joyful birth no matter where you choose to have it

  • Having a natural vaginal birth after having a C-section in a prior birth (VBAC) and how to have an orgasmic birth experience after having had less than satisfying prior birth experiences

We’re going LIVE at 5PM Pacific/8PM Eastern. Don’t miss this very important call!

Look and Feel Your Best Without Compromising Your Baby’s Health

Hope you’ve been enjoying all the insight and wisdom that’s being shared on these Tele-Summit calls. This evening is our 4th call in the series: “Look and Feel Your Best Without Compromising Your Baby’s Health.” I’ll be the resident expert for today’s session and I’ll be talking about something very important –-the hidden health threats to your baby from the personal care and beauty products you use! Some of the things I’ll cover on tonight’s session:

  • Startling new research about ingredients in mass-produced personal care products that may pre-dispose your baby to obesity (among other serious health problems!)
  •

  • The top 10 ingredients you MUST avoid to keep you and your baby safe and how you can find out if the products you’re using right now may contain them
  •

  • Using Mother Nature’s Rx: Essential Oils to safely address some of the most common pregnancy-related complaints

Much of what I’ll be sharing on tonight’s call applies to you whether you are pregnant or not, but becomes even more important when you are or planning to be. There’s no better time than now to take inventory of the products you currently use and toss the ones that are bad for you. Come join me and learn how to become a more conscious consumer so you can stop exposing your baby to hidden threats from toxic exposure while learning how to identify and choose safer, more effective natural alternatives.

Re-cap of Holistic Pregnancy Tele-Summit Session on Post-Partum Blues with Dr. Diana Hoppe

We had another great session last night in The Holistic Pregnancy Tele-Summit series, with Dr. Diana Hoppe! Awesome call on an important topic that pregnant women need to know more about! Here’s a quick recap and my “Cliff Notes” in case you weren’t able to join us last night  . . .

    1. Some of the typical physical changes women experience immediately after birth are triggered by hormones, which can lead to vaginal dryness and perineal pain which can make sexual intercourse difficult and painful. This is normal and usually only lasts for a couple of weeks but it’s important to communicate honestly with your partner about how you’re feeling without experiencing guilt, and to acknowledge them so they don’t fell neglected or displaced by the baby. Interesting research shows that male partners experience hormonal changes during this time that makes them inclined to be more supportive of their partners so don’t overlook this opportunity to ask for the support and understanding you need!
    2.

    3. Some of the typical emotional issues that present during the post-partum period are:
      • Feelings of guilt over what happened or didn’t happen during the birth
      • Overwhelm exacerbated by lack of sleep
      • Fear of not being a good enough mother

These are normal and constitute what is more commonly known as post-partum “blues” which is different and far less severe than post-partum depression

    4.

    5. There are a number of natural solutions for managing and improving the symptoms of post-partum blues but it’s important to pay attention to more severe symptoms or prolonged duration of symptoms as these could be an indication of post-partum depression or in extreme cases, post-partum psychosis. If you think what you’re experiencing is more intense than the typical post-partum blues then please see your doctor –you may need treatment to keep it from becoming a longer-term condition.
    6.

There’s still time to register and access the audio replay for this call, which includes instructions on how to claim your FREE copy of the chapter from Dr. Hoppe’s book that discusses changes in libido after birth.

If you’re pregnant now, are planning to become pregnant, work with pregnant women and want to better support them through this journey, or know anyone who fits any of these criteria, please share this with them and encourage them to register at: http://www.dropwise.info. It’s FREE!

Post-Partum Blues: Managing the Transition to Motherhood

Today marks the start of WEEK 2 of The Holistic Pregnancy Tele-Summit. Our speaker and resident expert for our 3rd call in the series is Dr. Diana Hoppe, distinguished OB/GYN, clinical researcher and author of “Healthy Sex Drive, Healthy You: What Your Libido Reveals About Your Life.”

Our topic for tonight is “Post-Partum Blues: Managing the Transition to Motherhood.” Pregnancy brings with it a lot of physical changes and emotional challenges, especially post partum. If it’s your first time, there’s also the added anxiety that comes with the shifting roles you and your partner may experience in anticipation of becoming parents. This can put a strain on your relationship with your spouse or significant other, challenge your ability to communicate clearly and support each other in this transition.  In this session you will learn how to enhance intimacy while dealing with physical limitations during pregnancy and post-partum, and how to maintain healthy communication to ensure you have the emotional support you need during this journey and beyond.

What we’ll be talking about:

  • The physical and emotional changes to expect immediately after giving birth
  •

  • What post-partum depression is, what causes it and how it typically manifests
  •

  • Natural ways to improve symptoms and deal with communication and intimacy issues with your partner
  •

  • How to know if and when it’s time to seek treatment and what are the best options

We’re going LIVE at 5PM Pacific/8PM Eastern. There’s still time to register and get onto this call. If this subject interests you then please register now. Even if you can’t make it to tonight’s call you can still access the audio replay up until midnight pacific time on Thursday, May 30th.

Holistic Pregnancy Tele-Summit Recap of Call with Dr. Stacey Rosenberg

We had another amazing call last night with Dr. Stacey Rosenberg D.C, chiropractor and author of Natural Pregnancy, Natural Baby. Hope you were able to attend and get her great tips for how to avoid a C-Section.

Here’s a quick recap and my “Cliff Notes” from last night’s call in case you weren’t able to join us:

Simple Ways to Avoid a C-Section?” 5/23/13 Training Call with Dr. Stacey Rosenberg

The major physical changes you undergo while pregnant can weaken your pelvis and alter the position of your baby leading to longer, more painful labor or worse, a C-Section.

Your baby is in a breech position if it is not facing head down. This can significantly increase your time in labor and cause complications during birth, ultimately requiring a C-Section.

The optimum position for your baby to ensure a smooth and relatively pain-free birth is head down with his or her face towards your spine. If your baby is head down but the back of the head is facing your spine, this will lead to a lot of pain during delivery due to the pressure of its skull pressing against your pubic bone.

Balance, gravity, and movement are the 3 main factors that can work in your favor to help you keep your baby in the proper position –especially during labor! Stacey explained why lying on your back is the worst possible thing you can do during labor. If you opt for a hospital birth, the longer they monitor you, the greater your risk of needing a C-section. So make sure you have the freedom and space to move around and get in motion!.

We also learned that proper chiropractic care significantly reduces time in labor –as much as 29% for first-time pregnant women and even more for subsequent births!

There’s still time to register and listen to the replay from Thursday’s call with Stacey. But hurry, the replay is coming down after midnight pacific time on Saturday! To register, go to :http://www.dropwise.info.

Simple Ways to Avoid a C-Section: Holistic Pregnancy Tele-Summit Call with Dr. Stacey Rosenberg

We’re off to a great start so far with the Holistic Pregnancy Tele-Summit! This evening is our 2nd call in the series: “Simple Ways to Avoid a C-Section” with our resident expert Dr. Stacey Rosenberg D.C., chiropractor and author of Natural Pregnancy, Natural Baby.

I was impressed by the depth of knowledge that Stacey has when it comes to having a healthier pregnancy and safer, more efficient childbirth. As both a chiropractor that specializes in pre-natal chiropractic care and a mother of two, she has more than one perspective on this subject!

We’ve set an intention for tonight’s call:  Help you understand how the physical changes during pregnancy can lead to situations that require a C-Section and simple holistic ways to address them to minimize the likelihood that you will need one.

Tonight we’ll be talking about:

  • Some of the major physical changes and common spinal issues that can weaken you during pregnancy and lead to problems during childbirth
  • The role that chiropractic care can play in helping you enjoy a healthier pregnancy and a safer childbirth
  • Knowing when a C-Section is really necessary and how to minimize the likelihood of having one
  • Simple but specific exercises you can do to naturally move your baby out of a breech position (one of the main conditions that lead to needing a C-section!) if it happens to you.

We’re going LIVE at 5PM Pacific/8PM Eastern. There’s still time to register and get onto this call. If this subject interests you then please register now. Even if you can’t make it to tonight’s call you can still access the audio replay up until midnight pacific time on Saturday, May.

Your Best Birth: Are You Ready? Recap of Holistic Pregnancy Tele-Summit Kickoff Call

Wow! What a great way to kickoff the Holistic Pregnancy Tele-Summit series! Last night’s call rocked! I loved hearing from all of the participants. I’m so inspired by their interest and desire to empower themselves with knowledge and choices that support them in having their ideal birth.

Here’s a quick recap and my “Cliff Notes” in case you weren’t able to join us last night  . . .

Are You Ready for Your Best Birth?” 5/21/13 Training Call with Stephanie Dawn

  1. Labor is like the waves of the ocean and you, the laboring Mama, are the surfer. If you run from the wave it can clobber you. Such is the power of the ocean. Such is the power of birth. If you breathe deeply and really become one with the wave, you surf! One of the ways you can overcome your fears around giving birth is to open up to the powerful energy of giving birth. It’s resistance to this power that makes it scary and difficult!
  2. Asking the right questions will help you select the best practitioners for your Sacred Birth Team. Choose those who share your consciousness so they can truly support you in achieving your vision for an ideal birth. For example, you may want to ask your OB/GYN what her/his rates are for C-Sections and episiotomy. If they are high then you may want to consider working with one who doesn’t rely so heavily on this method of delivery. If you want to include a mid-wife or doula on your team you should also quiz your OB/GYN to glean their general attitude towards midwives and doulas.
  3. Have a written Sacred Birth Plan that details how you want your birth process to unfold to ensure you have the birth experience you desire –especially if you opt for a hospital birth. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy or long. Just a one-page plan outlining what is acceptable and what is not acceptable to you during the birth process and anything or anyone else you feel you need to have present. This is one of the ways you can make your hospital birth more like a home birth. And just the act of putting all this stuff down on paper can help you get really lclear on your vision of what constitutes an ideal birth for you!But remember, unexpected developments can alter the best-laid plans, so be flexible but stay in control of your journey!

There’s still time to register and access the audio replay for this call which includes instructions on how to claim your FREE copy of Stephanie’s book: The Sacred Birth Workbook and it also includes the BONUS session we did during the “after party” for participants who stayed on the line with us. Stephanie guided us through a powerful visioning exercise to help participants create a vision for their ideal birth.

If you’re pregnant now, are planning to become pregnant, work with pregnant women and want to better support them through this journey, or know anyone who fits any of these criteria, please share this with them and encourage them to register at: http://www.dropwise.info.

Reflections on The Tumultuous Fall of 2012

It’s amazing how much has happened since my last post. Wow! First there was the legendary performance of the San Francisco Giants leading up to and right through the World Series. Now I must confess that I don’t normally follow what’s going on in the sports world with more than a passing nod, but the excitement rippling through the city here during those 10+ days was so palpable that even I got swept up Giants fever and watched the most of the last 7 post-season games with some enthusiasm. Go Giants!

Then there was the gut-wrenching nightmare of Hurricane Sandy and its trail of devastation. Having grown up in New York City and lived in New Jersey for many years, it was difficult to watch the images of some of my favorite places destroyed by the ravages of Mother Nature and it brought back sad memories of Katrina. Our hearts go out to all the “Nor-Easters” who’ve been affected by this, many of whom are still struggling to get back on their feet. Here’s hoping for as speedy a recovery as possible.

And amidst all the hoopla and chaos, the long and dreary 2012 election season finally came to a spectacular close! All just in time to gather our wits, re-group, and turn our attention to the approaching holiday season. I’ve been busy working on a special report called “50 Conscious Gift Ideas for the Holidays & Beyond” to help put some of the joy back into holiday gift shopping and giving. Be sure to check back later this week for an excerpt from that report featuring 12 of my favorites that I just had to share with you! I’ll also share with you how you can grab a FREE copy of the entire report!

Dropwise Essentials Named “Champion” In the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics’ Market Shift Report

Dropwise Essentials is very proud to announce that we have been named a “Champion” in the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics’ Market Shift report, released November 30th. The report describes how certain companies, from small mom-and-pops to large companies in the natural products sector, are setting a new high-bar standard for personal care products. From the start, our core focus has been on creating safe, gentle and effective plant-based personal care productions, so its exciting and a real honor to be lauded with this particular recognition!

The Market Shift report documents how the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a national coalition of nonprofit women’s, environmental, health, consumer and worker safety organizations, worked with cosmetics industry leaders between 2004 and 2011 in order to increase attention to product safety while growing demand for safer personal care products. Luckily, consumer demand for safer products free from harmful chemicals has made natural personal care the fastest growing sector of the cosmetics market, even during this economic downturn!

Being named a “Champion” by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics means we met the goals of their strict Compact for Safe Cosmetics, voluntary pledge to avoid chemicals banned in other countries, avoid harmful ingredients whenever possible and fully disclose product ingredients –all things we were already doing before signing their pledge.

We are proud to be among the leaders in the personal care industry of what will hopefully be a continuing trend toward making products that are truly safe for personal consumption and for environmental stewardship, Everyday in every way we are demonstrating that it is possible to make luscious, effective personal care products without using any toxic or questionable ingredients at all.

According to the report, the average American woman uses 12 personal care products a day and is exposed to more than 120 chemicals –many of which are linked to cancer, birth defects, asthma, allergies and other health problems. It’s no coincidence that many of these dangerous chemicals contaminate our water and wildlife as well, affecting our children’s future wellbeing in a number of adverse ways.

You know that old adage from the 1960s “If you’re not part of the solution then you’re part of the problem”? Well we pride ourselves on being part of the solution and helping others be a part of it too! You can be part of this exciting market shift by trying and buying products from the companies listed in the report and educating yourself so you can avoid products made with hazardous chemicals altogether.

So, this season, give yourself and the ones you love the gift of our all-natural, healthy, spa quality products and feel secure, knowing that you are supporting a company that has been recognized for its efforts to ensure safety and purity. Consult our holiday gift buying guide for some great ideas! And join us on Facebook to take advantage of our wonderful deals all year round!
