“Simple Ways to Avoid a C-Section?” 5/23/13 Training Call with Dr. Stacey Rosenberg
The major physical changes you undergo while pregnant can weaken your pelvis and alter the position of your baby leading to longer, more painful labor or worse, a C-Section.
Your baby is in a breech position if it is not facing head down. This can significantly increase your time in labor and cause complications during birth, ultimately requiring a C-Section.
The optimum position for your baby to ensure a smooth and relatively pain-free birth is head down with his or her face towards your spine. If your baby is head down but the back of the head is facing your spine, this will lead to a lot of pain during delivery due to the pressure of its skull pressing against your pubic bone.
Balance, gravity, and movement are the 3 main factors that can work in your favor to help you keep your baby in the proper position –especially during labor! Stacey explained why lying on your back is the worst possible thing you can do during labor. If you opt for a hospital birth, the longer they monitor you, the greater your risk of needing a C-section. So make sure you have the freedom and space to move around and get in motion!.
We also learned that proper chiropractic care significantly reduces time in labor –as much as 29% for first-time pregnant women and even more for subsequent births!
